Ramses II, son of Pharaoh Seti I and Queen Tuya, was born in 1303 B.C. When he was 10, his father appointed him as "First Commander of the Army." Afterward, the young pharaoh accompanied his father in the Battle of Kadesh, in which the Egyptians and the Hittites fought to gain control over the city of Kadesh, in which the Egyptians won. He was then also appointed Prince Regent of Egypt at the age of 14, allowing him to become the heir to the throne. Among his many accomplishments during his reign were:
- The building of his monuments to his first wife Nefertari (who may have died in childbirth) and himself
- the temples at Abu Simbel
- the Ramesseum in Thebes
- the hall in Karnak
- the Abydos complex
- making Egypt a prosperous kingdom
